Wyclef Jean was seen in tears during a press conference, as he spoke about the earthquake that hit his homeland Haiti last week.

He said, “I want all Haitian people to listen to this. I do not cry for myself, I cry for all the Haitian people”.

The 37-year-old rap musician also denied that he took money from his own charitable foundation for personal gain. “I never, and would never, take money for my personal pocket when it comes to Yele”.

He established The Yele Haiti Foundation in 2005.

Jean added that he was “disgusted” by the accusations and said that he himself have shared millions of dollars to his own foundation.

He said, “My dad always told me, if you’re a man with a clear conscience, speak with a clear conscience and the world will know”.

The former Fugees member also called on the Port-au-Prince residents to evacuate the capital for them to reach help.

Jean recently returned from Haiti and said that Port-au-Prince was a “morgue”.

He said he wanted to build a tent city outside the Haitian capital and also asked for help and donations. He added that they need to transfer at least two million people. “I give you my word, if I tell them to go, they will go. But they need somewhere to go to”.

The disaster, which struck last week, is believed to have killed as much as 200,000 people.

Food and water supplies have already started to be given by the US military by airdropping them into the area.
