The much-awaited return of Tiger Woods to competitive golfing might occur earlier than what many people believe, according to Steve Williams, his caddie.
Williams disclosed this information in one of Australia’s broadsheets, and was confirmed by a source close to the pro-golfer as well.
In his apology, Woods was vague about his return to competitive golfing. “I do plan to return to golf one day”, he declared last Friday.
He added that he does not know when that day will be, but he does not rule out 2010 as his return date. According to experts, it sounded as though his return will be in the latter part of the year, after the Masters in April, June’s US Open, the Open in July and October’s Ryder Cup.
Williams said that the golfer needs one more appointment with his counsellor. He added that it will not surprise him if the priorities of the golfer will change from then on, and if his focus will be on professional golfing once again.
Wood’s former coach Butch Harmon has said that he is not really expecting Woods to make a comeback in competitive golfing this year. However, Williams’ comments have kept people speculating about Woods’ comeback, as it seemed as if the world’s No. 1 will return to competitive golfing at the end of his therapy.
Woods last played competitive golf in November of last year, and was able to attract a large number of spectators in the Kingston Heath course where he won with only two strokes.
