Multi-awarded pop star Taylor Swift was dubbed the “golden girl” of People magazine as she is featured on its cover of “most intriguing of 2009” issue, reports said Wednesday.
The 20-year-old country singer tops the list, which include other newsmakers of the year such as the “mother of all reality stars,” Kate Gosslein and Britain’s Got Talent’s Susan Boyle.
Swift, who bagged five American Music Awards and the title of Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year, said she remains surprised of her success and told the magazine that she hoped to remain down to earth. “You can stay the same person, even if everything around you changes.”
She continued, “I would like to think everybody out there isn’t just waiting for me to trip and fall and stumble out of a club drunk. People know I’m not a party girl. I’m not hiding some dying urge to be out clubbing right now.”
People also named Oprah Winfrey “the departing diva” after announcing that she would end her talk show in 2011.
Moreover, the magazine also gave Pres. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle “the first couple” honours, while “the power pair” title was given to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
A new category, “Men in the Doghouse,” was also launched by People where male celebrities involved in scandals were included. They were Tiger Woods, singer Chris Brown, rap star Kanye West, reality star Jon Gosslein, and talk show host David Letterman.
Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna was dubbed as “the resilient star” after a series of straightforward interviews in November as well as a new album.
