Wearing a shimmering purple dress, her hair coifed, singing sensation Susan Boyle, the 48-year old from Scotland, took to the stage Sunday night in the semi-finals of ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’
Boyle sang ‘Memory’ from the musical ‘Cats.’ Despite starting out a bit nervously, she came out strong. Her through-the-roof rendition has earned her a spot in the shows grand finale to be aired May 30. A win would earn her £100,000 and a performance in the ‘Royal Variety Show’ in front of Queen Elizabeth.
Following her performance last night, Susan was asked if she was nervous, to which she answered, “It was really good tonight, I really enjoyed it…I’m very happy to be here and thank you all for your support.”
Susan first wowed Britain and the world-at-large in April when she appeared on the show singing ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from ‘Les Miserables,’ catapulting her into the international spotlight and with over 60 million views of her performance on YouTube, making her an Internet sensation to boot. She has also appeared on U.S. television programmes with Oprah and Larry King.
Following her performance, Simon Cowell, judge for Britain’s Got Talent, apologized to Boyle, saying, “You know what, I just want to apologise because of the way we treated you before you sang the first time. You made me and everyone else look very stupid and I’m very happy for you, very proud for you.”
Boyle defeated seven other acts that included a Darth Vader impersonator and a belly dancer.
