Ricky Martin said on Thursday that he is partnering with a broadcasting company in Germany to help his foundation establish a children’s centre in Puerto Rico.

The Latin singing sensation told the Associated Press that he is teaming up with RTL to raise funds to help set up the centre in Loiza.

“The idea is to build a centre, a safe haven for children that are at risk of exploitation, which is the main mission of my foundation”, said Martin.

The two-day RTL telethon is also raising funds for other children’s charities in Germany.

The Grammy winner said that the Loiza centre will serve as a learning place where classes in art, meditation, yoga and martial arts will be taught to 150 children.

Architecture students from the University of Puerto Rico were the ones who designed the centre and construction is expected to start next year.

“It’s just to show them another aspect of life they don’t know because of the way that they live”, Martin said.

“We need to show them the beauty of having a dignified life”, he added.

The Latin singer said that his Ricky Martin Foundation is also active with other projects, such as helping human trafficking victims. “It’s the slavery of a new era and I hope to abolish it”.

He also mentioned that he would return to Germany in September for a tour. He is currently working on a new album and a book to be released next year.
