New Asian catwalk princess for Victoria’s Secret

Four years ago, a high school student named Liu Wen wanted a laptop computer. “I was studying to be a teacher in China and my friend was entering a modelling contest,” she said. “The prize was a computer, and I needed a computer for school. So I entered the contest, too, and then I won.” The win eventually led Wen to a bigger runway, including Victoria’s Secret, making her the first Asian model of the famous brand. “I was surprised when my agent told me,” Wen said. “I asked my agent if she was joking. I didn’t think an Asian girl would get this job.” The 5″10 model is the latest addition to the Victoria’s Secret Empire. She was born in Yongzhou, China and moved to Beijing where she appeared in covers of FHM and Marie Claire China. In 2008, she made her runway debut in Milan and soon conquered Paris and New York, walking the catwalk for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen. “I talk to my mom in China every day when I am travelling. My family is always excited to hear about the top designers I am meeting and the clothes I get to wear,” she said. Wen said that she is familiar with Victoria’s Secret, but being part of it is a new experience for her. Monica Mitro, the executive producer of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, which will air on Tuesday said, “Liu Wen is a beautiful woman. She has a strong and energetic presence on the runway. She looked absolutely stunning in our fashion show.”
