The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced on Wednesday that more celebrity names have been added to the list of burglary victims.
Ashley Tisdale, Megan Fox, and Brian Austin Green join Orlando Bloom, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge and Rachel Bilson as those who have been identified as victims of a burglary allegedly committed by an LA teenage crime gang.
LAPD Officer Brett Goodkin said that the LA-area gang have taken millions of dollars worth of stolen property between late 2008 and Sept. 2009.
A statement from the district attorney said that the suspects “studied celebrity magazines and websites and picked out clothing and jewellery they wanted.”
“I wouldn’t say this was just a misguided scavenger hunt,” Goodkin replied after being asked if he considered the suspects as professional burglars. “There were at least 10 victims, and these were very serious crimes alleged. The suspects in this case are not 12-year-old children…We have every indication this was a very successful, busy burglary crew.”
A source said that Green and Fox were unaware of the situation until police contacted Green about his stolen handgun, which was found in one of the suspect’s homes.
Six suspects have been arrested including Nicholas Prugo, 18, who was charged with theft against Lohan and Patridge. Prugo was charged with five felony counts of first-degree burglary. He may face up to nine years in jail if convicted.
Meanwhile, Police have confirmed that seventh suspect, Jonathan Ajar, 27, is still on the run. The LAPD has considered Ajar to be armed and dangerous. Photos revealed on Wednesday show 80 pieces of Hilton’s jewellery retrieved from Ajar’s home.
Goodkin said that the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are to be expected.
