Michael Jackson will be the highlight of the 52nd Grammy Awards as the show’s producer is preparing for a grand tribute to the King of Pop, featuring a 3-D video clip along with performances from the biggest stars in the music industry.
Last year, Grammys’ executive producer Ken Ehrlich was in talks with the late pop star for an appearance in the awards ceremony as he planned to celebrate the 25th-year anniversary of ‘Thriller’. However, he said that Jackson was not ready for it.
This year, the Grammys will present a 3-D video of Jackson which he made for his ‘Earth Song’. Alongside the video clip, performances from Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Smokey Robinson will be featured.
This will be the first time that a 3-D video will be shown at an awards programme.
“Whenever we would do a show with [Jackson], the first thing he would say to me was, ‘How can we do something that we [have] never done before?’ And now we’re doing something that hasn’t been done before”, Ehrlich told the Associated Press in an interview.
Ehrlich, who had worked with the King of Pop for nearly 30 years, was also the producer of the Jackson memorial that was televised last year.
He made the decision to include the five-minute 3-D video at the awards night to make a special tribute to Jackson, who was remembered to have given the most memorable moments in Grammys, especially with his eight awards in 1984.
Ehrlich said, “The promise is this is going to be pretty spectacular”.
During the show, Jackson will also be presented with a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy.
