Meester gets advice from Cyndi Lauper

She is known as Blair Waldorf on CW’s Gossip Girl. But Leighton Meester is more than just an actress. With her performance on the hit song “Good Girls Go Bad” with synthpop outfit Cobra Starship, she hopes to be recognized as a singer. And she already has a mentor.

“Recently I’ve spent a lot of time with Cyndi Lauper, and she’s a legend”, Meester said. “She gave me the advice: Never sell your publishing, so I’ll take that”.

Meester, who has worked with notable musicians like Robin Thicke, Adam Lambert and Lil Wayne, admitted that she has been hooked on the thrill of performing on stage.

“I get more excited than nervous, and I feel like that’s the best kind of energy to have”, said the 23-year-old TV actress who spoke on Saturday before playing a 15-minute show at Venetian’s Tao Las Vegas. She described her performance as “cute, sexy … I’m just having the time of my life, and I hope it continues”.

The electro-pop driven set list started with the Cobra Starship song “Good Girls Go Bad”. It was then followed by “Somebody to Love”, “Playing Games” and “Your Love’s a Drug”.

After her performance, Meester took her place at a sky box table for a celebration before going back to the set of Gossip Girl. Meester and her band, plus the crew and dancers, went to LAVO for an Italian dinner earlier in the evening.
