Kings of Leon beat chart toppers in this year’s Grammy Awards as they took home the record of the year award on Sunday night.
Kings of Leon’s romantic ode ’Use Somebody’ toppled ‘You Belong to Me’ by best country album winner Taylor Swift, ‘Poker Face’ by Lady Gaga, and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas, who won three trophies.
The rock quartet also won three other awards, including best rock performance by a group and best rock song for the same track.
“I’m not going to lie, we’re all a little drunk. But we’re happy drunks”, front man Caleb Followill said.
Meanwhile, Beyonce took home five Grammys including song of the year for ‘Single Ladies (Put a ring on it)’, best female R&B vocal performance and best R&B song for the same track, best traditional R&B vocal performance for ‘At Last’, and best R&B contemporary album for ‘I Am … Sasha Fierce’.
Taylor Swift was named best female country performance, and bagged the best country song honour.
“I just keep thinking back to when you’re in second grade and you sing in the talent show for the first time and people joke around and say, ‘Maybe we’ll see you at the Grammys some day.’ But that just seems like an impossible dream”, said the 20-year-old singer.
The Zac Brown Band won as best new artist, while Green Day’s ‘21st Century Breakdown’ won as best rock album.
