Katy Perry, Kara DioGuardi turn catty during ‘Idol’ audition

The drama on ‘American Idol’ heats up as Kara DioGuardi and celebrity guest judge Katy Perry clashed over their feedback to an ‘Idol’ contestant’s performance in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

The tension arose when the 25-year-old pop star disagreed with the judge’s response to the ‘Stand by Me’ performance of ‘Idol’ hopeful Chris Golightly.

DioGuardi was wowed by Golightly and wanted him to advance to the next round. “Chris, you are one of my favourites today, if not my favourite…I think we may look back at this audition and go, ‘Wow’”.

The contestant’s childhood story also caught DioGuardi’s sympathy. She continued, “You’re the kind of kid who has just enough talent and just enough of a story and pain and stuff that you’ve gone through in your life to really connect with it, and I think you’re only going to get better”.

However, Perry disagreed and voted “no” to putting the aspiring singer through to the next round. She argued with DioGuardi saying, “This is not a Lifetime movie, sweetheart. You have to have talent”.

The argument went on with Simon Cowell taking Perry’s side. This provoked DioGuardi to say, “I have Simon and Katy ganging up on me!”

The tension blew up when the 39-year-old judge started to mock Perry’s hit song ‘I Kissed a Girl’. After a few seconds, the pop star cut in and warned, “Please stop before I throw my Coke in your face!”
