Four hopeful contestants were sent home on Thursday night after a round of ‘American Idol’ elimination.

The first to go was the 24-year-old wine salesperson from Orlando, Florida named Janell Wheeler, who is rumoured to be linked to Tim Tebow, the quarterback of the Florida Gators.

“I had a feeling”, Wheeler said after the news was announced by show host Ryan Seacrest. “I really wanted a chance to play my guitar and do what I do best one more time”.

The Eva Longoria look-a-like, Ashley Rodriguez, was also sent home. The 22-year-old from Chelsea, Mass., performed the song ‘Happy’ which was popularised by Leona Lewis, a protégé of Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’ show.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me from day one”, she told the ‘Idol’ audience.

Since Wednesday’s live competition, the judges have been applauding Joe Munoz’s performance. But it didn’t last long as he was also sent packing. The singer, who took his elimination in stride, admitted he wasn’t expecting anything. “I was just waiting for things to happen”, he said.

Tyler Grady was the last contestant to be eliminated. Influenced by 70s rock, the 20-year-old from Nazareth, Penn. performed ‘American Woman’. Despite his resemblance to Johnny Bravo, the judges criticised his performance, describing it as cliché.

“All the judges, I really had a great time with them, but I feel like I didn’t get much constructive criticism during Hollywood Week”, he commented. “And I feel like what they told me [on] Wednesday, was a little bit too late”.
