Howard Stern admits negotiating to judge American Idol

Howard Stern disclosed on Monday that he is currently talking with the management of American Idol to replace Simon Cowell as one of the show’s judges.

On his own ‘The Howard Stern Show’, aired on Sirius XM radio, he said that there is no better job in the world than judging a karaoke contest.

“It would be the best thing that happened to me,” said Stern. He also added that the job seemed easy for a $100 million contract for four months. The offer seemed too good to be true.

However, Stern had conditions before he plans to take on the job as an Idol judge. He said the show should pay him a lot since he is already earning a lot of money. “$100 million to judge a karaoke contest? Yeah, I would do that show for $100 million,” declared Stern.

Also, Stern mentioned that he would quit his own radio show if Fox offers him the Idol contract. His $500 million deal with Sirius XM ends in 2010.

Unsurprisingly, Stern firmly believes that he is suitable for the gig. He said that he could not think of anyone else replacing Cowell but him.

“I mean, I don’t know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who’s not afraid to speak their mind?” said Stern.

Thef Mediaweek’s senior TV editor Marc Berman agreed with Stern. He mentioned that Stern would make the show controversial, and if the Idol producers are hopeful to keep the show running, then putting Stern as a judge is not a bad idea.
