French rock legend Johnny Hallyday would have to cancel his farewell tour scheduled in January, reports said Tuesday.
The rockstar is currently recuperating from his surgery in Los Angeles after suffering from an infection that was caused by an earlier operation.
According to Le Point news magazine’s website, Pont Neuf insurance brokers Director Francois Chiesa said, “It is now certain that the first concerts in 2010 will not take place.”
He also said that they are still unsure whether Hallyday’s concert tours would push through. “I don’t know . . . we will see.”
On the other hand, Dr Francois Zuccarelli, who looks over the rock icon’s condition, said that he was much better and that he would one day perform again.
The doctor arrived with Yves Catonne, a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, in Los Angeles to examine the musician’s condition.
“I won’t say that he is in top form, but he is quite lucid and conscious and we even joked together at his bedside, so things are a little more positive,” Zucarelli said in an interview with RTL Radio.
Jean-Claude Camus, Hallyday’s producer, said that he would make an announcement on the tour’s plans on Wednesday. The rock singer was scheduled to perform in 24 farewell tour concerts across his home country in France. The tour was supposed to begin on January 8 on Amiens.
Hallyday may not be widely recognised outside France, but he is considered the “French Elvis” and has sold over 100 million albums.
