After five years of being the health expert on the show of Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Mehmet Oz now has his own talk show, ‘The Dr. Oz Show.’
He has prohibited all his staff from eating junk food backstage at his new talk show, which aims to make all Americans healthier. Their menu includes only fruits, vegetables, whole-grain breads, yoghourt, and natural peanut butter.
Starring heart evangelist and heart surgeon Dr. Oz, ’The Dr. Oz Show’ will debut on 14 September 2009. According to Bill Carroll, Katz Television’s market expert, ’The Dr. Oz Show’ is an eagerly awaited syndicated talk show.
Oz has a fancy new studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, in the same area wherein Conan O’Brien worked before the latter left for the West. The “truth tube” is considered as the scariest element in the show. It is a platform that displays the weight of the person, health indicators, and body fat, much like the scale on ‘The Biggest Loser.’
Oz’s aim is not to trivialise health information, rather to make it more entertaining and interesting.
In a backstage conversation over lunch, Oz said that if only they can motivate people to practise what they are discussing on their show, are they confident that they will certainly save millions of lives every day. “The challenge isn’t what to say — because we know that — the challenge is how to say it so people are motivated,” said Oz.
He will start the show with the latest health topic, like immunisation and swine flu, and will end it with audience questions.
