Conan O’Brien has announced that he will be conducting a tour, heading to at least 30 cities and 20 states from 12 April to 14 June. With this tour and his latest Twitter run, many are now wondering what the comic will be up to next.
“It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house”, O’Brien joked.
There are those who claim that the tour is a way for O’Brien to bring himself back on TV.
“Since he has no TV show nailed down with Fox or Comedy Central, this is obviously his way of keeping himself in front of the people”, communication professor Richard Goedkoop of La Salle University commented.
There are also those who view the unorthodox approach of O’Brien of his expulsion at NBC as a way to cut his ties with the corporate culture that booted him out.
“He is … thumbing his nose at corporate America (NBC) by saying with this tour: ‘I may have to stay off TV for a period of time but that is not going to preclude me from doing what I love via other avenues”, said Don Tanner of Tanner Friedman, a strategic communications firm.
The “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television” Tour of O’Brien will start on 12 April in Eugene, Oregon. The comedian will go around the United States and Canada for two months. Additional tour dates have been added due to sold out tickets.
Band members of his former “Tonight Show” and sidekick, Andy Richter, will be part of the bill.
According to TMZ website, O’Brien will not earn a cent from the tour and that he is leading this to employ his former staff who will be doing production work.
