Celebrating the holidays the Elin Nordegren way

by Allison on 05/01/2010

Wherever Elin Nordegren goes, the whole world seems to follow. Not even celebrating New Year’s Eve while dining in a restaurant serving casual cuisine in one of the world’s most popular ski resorts can appease the brouhaha that surrounds Mrs Tiger Woods.

Reports confirmed that after celebrating an isolated Christmas holiday, Elin, along with her twin sister Josefine, arrived in the French Alps. They landed at the Geneva Airport in Switzerland on Sunday, 27 December, along with Josefine’s husband, Daniel Lönnborg. The trio spent the New Year holidays with friends in a rented chalet located in Les Houches, which is outside the Chamonix ski resort.

To guard the privacy of the group, a five-man French security team was hired.

Nordegren went on to spend New Year’s Eve in Chamonix along with eight guests, including her sister and Lönnborg. Friends and relatives also joined the celebration held at Le Munchie, a Swedish-run restaurant that boasts of Asian fusion dishes, including Malaysian curry and duck teriyaki. But a Réveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre special, which is a five-course New Year’s Eve menu, was served instead.

According to sources, Elin seemed to look bright while at the table, speaking in English and Swedish to friends and the staff. “She was having a good time”, a friend said. “As good of a time as possible. Under the circumstances”.

When the clock hit midnight, Elin and her twin made a celebration toast for their birthday. “They stayed on quite late”, said one eyewitness.

Elin hit the slopes the next day with Lönnborg. Then, a quiet birthday dinner was prepared in the rented chalet.
