If you’re Elisabetta Canalis, walking with George Clooney on the red carpet could define the word ecstatic. When asked about spending the awards season with her actor boyfriend, she responded, “Yes, I love it!”
During the 2009 New York Film Critic’s Circle Awards in Manhattan on Monday, the couple walked the red carpet with their hands tied together. The 48-year-old Clooney was recognised as best actor for his roles in ‘Up in the Air’ and ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ during the ceremony.
The two celebrated the New Year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The 31-year-old Canalis described the experience as “Great!” and attested to the charm her man exudes. But there’s no question that humour plays a big part of Mr Clooney’s charm. “She’s homely”, Clooney joked as he held their hands to his chest. “But what do you do?”
His humour became evident when he went onstage to present the best animated film award to director Wes Anderson for ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’. The actor said that his drinks arrived way before his dinner plate did.
“I got the chicken about five minutes ago, so I’m Mariah Carey f—ed up right now”, joked Clooney, in reference to Carey’s alcohol-induced speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on 5 January.
Christine Lahti, who presented the best actor award to Clooney, asked the actor if he Googled himself. The actor responded, “I Google myself every afternoon”.
When he came up on stage later on to accept the award, he told the audience, “I’m not drunk anymore. I’m gonna be good”.
