Campbell’s driver admits of “overreacting” over assault incident

The driver who accused Naomi Campbell of assault said he “got angry and overreacted” and regrets putting the police in the middle of the situation, according to a statement released by his lawyer.

“This whole thing has been blown out of proportion and I apologize to Ms. Campbell for causing that to happen”, said the driver, Miodrag Mejdina.

Mejdina informed police that Campbell struck him from behind, forcing his head to hit the car’s steering wheel that led to a bruise on his face. He then pulled over and spoke to a traffic agent who contacted the police. When the officers arrived, Campbell was no longer at the scene.

The police then contacted the district attorney’s office in Manhattan and released a harassment report, which does not involve a penalty, because no officers can confirm what really happened between Campbell and the driver. Mejdina decided not to press charges against the supermodel.

Campbell, who was previously involved in legal problems, said in a statement that she is glad about Mejdina’s apology and that she wants to move on from the incident. “I have worked very hard on correcting my previous wrongdoings and I will not be held hostage to my past”, she said.

The British supermodel had been accused of attacking household employees and two officers at the Heathrow Airport in London. In June 2008, she pleaded guilty to the airport case and was sentenced to 200 hours of service in the community.

In 2000, Campbell also pleaded guilty for an assault charge after an assistant accused her of hitting her head with a phone.
