Brittany Murphy was not killed by drugs, says mom and husband

Brittany Murphy died of natural causes and not from eating disorders, a mental illness, or drug use, her mother and husband said.

Her mother Sharon Murphy and widower Simon Monjack said in an interview with the Associated Press that the late actress did not consume alcohol or drugs and that they were expecting a determination from officials to end the rumours that her death was caused by prescription medicine.

Monjack also said that he owned some of the prescription drugs that were found in their home in Hollywood Hills.

He added that Murphy suffered from a heart condition, although doctors said that she would live a healthy and long life.

Her mother Sharon also said that her daughter had “a fear of dying”.

She said, “She would not take too much caffeine. She wouldn’t even have a glass of champagne on New Year’s. She was just high on life, and people see that as something else I guess”.

Monjack also said that there was no confirmation from police and coroner’s officials on the cause of his wife’s death.

Murphy’s death is still under investigation by authorities. No foul play was suspected. Tissue and toxicology test results are yet to be released.

Monjack, who married the actress in 2007 said, “I think the dust will settle, the truth will come out. I think people will come to realise the genius of Brittany Murphy and come to regret the way they treated her while she was alive”.
