The Black Eyed Peas once again top the Billboard charts. The group, which has had its share of critics, has been at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 charts for 20 straight weeks. The songs “I Got a Feeling” and “Boom Boom Pow” have topped the charts for eight and 12 weeks, respectively.

“There’s a part of me that wants to be cocky, but then I can’t be cocky,” the Peas leader said in a phone interview Tuesday. “There’s a part of me that wants to call out all of my other peers and competitors. I don’t want to say no names because I’m not like that, but part of me wants to do that. And would it be wrong if I did that? Yes it would. I’m not like that.”

Despite having had big hits over the years, Will.i.am, Peas leader, says the band is surprised at how successful “Boom Boom Pow” became.

“I knew that `Boom Boom Pow’ would be big in the clubs, but I didn’t know it would be that potent with the world, outside of the clubs. So that my accountant’s aunt would be like: Black Eyed Peas, I love `Boom Boom Pow!’” he laughed. “I didn’t know it was going to be that. I didn’t know that teachers would say I like `Boom Boom Pow.’”

But Will.i.am explains that the song’s success is not 100% luck. They did a lot of research for their latest CD, “The E.N.D.”, he explains, by partying at nightclubs and events.

The band chose “Boom Boom Pow” as their first single after getting a good response when they debuted it a Grammy party.
