Singer/producer Akon admitted that he is currently reaping what he sowed way back in 2006 when he was able to sign up Lady Gaga under his record label, Kon Live Distribution distributed under Interscope’s umbrella.
Akon said that when Lady Gaga was dropped by one recording label, he grabbed the opportunity to sign her up and regarded it as a smart move.
He also said that having her under his label makes everything easy for him. “She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment. I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off”, he said.
He is presently preparing for a release of his new album entitled ’Stadium’. He made the Kon Live imprint with the Chairman of Interscope, Jimmy Iovine, and recalled that Lady Gaga was one of the first artists who signed under him.
“I was like ‘Yo, I want to sign that right there. She needs to be under my umbrella’”, he claimed. “Jimmy was like ‘Yeah, whatever you want. Take her. Let’s get it done.’ And she just blossomed into a super megastar, man.”
The signature style of Gaga appealed to Akon immediately. He predicted that this year, people will be moving towards the dance genre. He added that he was given a chance to hear the dance album being produced by Dr Dre, and thought that everyone will like it.
