Aerosmith needs new frontman, gears up for comeback

Aerosmith is hoping to be back on the road but they need someone to fill in the vacant spot left by frontman Steve Tyler.

Joe Perry, the band’s guitarist, said they would begin searching for a new member soon. He was quoted by Reuters as saying that they hope to hire a new vocalist by summer.

Tyler is now confined in a rehab for addiction to painkillers after experiencing difficulties late last year.

Tyler announced in December his plans to “enthusiastically be writing, recording and performing with Aerosmith as soon as things are handled.”

However, Perry thinks that it might take more time for Tyler to put things to order and that the rest of the band could no longer wait for him as they prepare for Aerosmith’s 40th anniversary in 2011.

He also mentioned about Tyler’s need to undergo a leg and foot surgery which could take about a year or so for the singer to recover from.

“In the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. And I want to play with the other guys in Aerosmith. [That’s why] the four of us are making our plans. We’re gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. We need another singer to fill in,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Perry declined to mention any possible replacement for Tyler although he admitted that there were “a few people we’ve talked to”.

However, he still hopes for Tyler’s comeback. “I’m ready to write with him, to play on stage with him anytime he’s physically ready and wants to do it”.
