ABC Wants Paula to Dance with the Stars

Paula Abdul may have left ‘American Idol’ but she could soon be dancing her way to the rival network, ABC. Steve McPherson, ABC entertainment president, told reporters he would love to see Paula judge on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and had actually called her about possible participation in the show. ”I would love to (have her). I was a little stunned by the (‘Idol’) decision. We would love to have her on ‘Dancing’, either as a participant or a contestant,” McPherson said. ”I definitely have reached out to her. I gave her a call first and foremost to say I was sorry about the situation and to say we’d love to see her on ABC,” said McPherson, who also added that he was Abdul’s personal friend.

Earlier this week, Paula Abdul announced that she was leaving the show that she has been part of for seven years, after talks on her getting a large pay rise collapsed. Auditions for the top-rated TV singing competition for ninth season started Friday, with former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham filling in for Abdul. Fox will air the show come January and said that singer Katy Perry was on the list of a number of female artists being considered for guest judge spots while the hunt is still on for a permanent replacement for Paula.

The executive producer of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, Nigel Lythgoe, said that he would love to have Paula on his show. ”I don’t know anyone who has had her experience as a performer, a dancer, a choreographer and a judge. I’ve been trying to get her since season one!” Lythgoe said.
