Building the ideal house is more than a simple passion for singer/actress Barbra Streisand. For her, it is almost primal.
The 68-year-old Streisand, who was promoting her forthcoming book on design, stated that searching for precious household objects is her way of coping up with the death of her father when she was only 15 months old.
“The fact I didn’t have a father, I think this has to do with this need of finding something you’re looking for”, Streisand stated at BookExpo America on Tuesday, where she was questioned on stage by Gayle King at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Her coffee table book ‘My Passion for Design’, is set to be released in the fall.
Donning a pair of black slacks, a black top, a pair of platform sandals and a full-length coat, and seated facing almost 2,000 booksellers and several industry officials, Streisand discussed about channelling her exacting movie making style into her life at home. She displayed slides of a mill house and an “elegant barn” that she had created and offered stories about varied topics, such as her ‘Wizard of Oz’ storm cellar, the drawers with leather embellishments in the barn and a made-to-order bed in her house in Malibu, California that she personally asked to be between the sizes of a king and a queen bed.
Also, the singer confessed having the same problem with other home owners, which is being overbilled by her contractors. She also divulged that her voice became hoarse for quite some time after shouting over buzz saws and other construction equipment.
In addition, Streisand reiterated what she said to The Associated Press last year that she had already written several chapters of a memoir. However, she realised that she was not yet ready for her life story.
